ALMOST FINISHED!

Last Saturday we laid the bricks for the hearth floor (which is where the
cooking will happen) then we started building the sand mound.
Then we rebuilt it this Saturday because
a sand mound cannot stay the same in storms and lots of heat...

We then covered it in wet paper so it will be easier to take out, and much
slower than planned built up the first layer of our wall. In a few days it will be
ready to have its first firing!

a few more hours on the earth oven

thanks to bobby and lauren I had a a lot of sand and clay to use today..
First I had to level out the surface using rock and sand, now I'm starting to build
up the walls using recycled bottles and a sand/clay mixture from the asphalt
parking lot we are tearing up.

I've decided to start posting again.

I have started a new project. It is called an earth oven and so far it has consisted of a lot of digging. This involved hitting a gas line (not breaking it), hurting my toe, terrible back pains, 100lbs of rocks, and 6 hours of work.... AND IT'S ONLY TWO FT DEEP!!!!!! The part that is being dug is about 5x5 and it needs to be 3 ft. Anyways hopefully the digging will be done by tomorrow and the building can begin.
The first picture is the site before the digging, the second shows Champ helping me out, and the third picture is an example of a finished earth oven.
